When you go into a pub in England you will have several choices of beer or ales, bottled or draft. Some of the drafts will use CO2 lines like what we have in the States. But the real ales will be hand pulled. You will be able to distinguish between the two because we all know what a standard tap looks like, but the hp's are different. The tap is bigger and the beer comes out of an S-shaped tube. It takes several pumps to pour a full pint, but since the hp does not use CO2, there is no carbonation, and therefore you can drink more and I think it tastes much better. The beer is not ice cold but it is cooler than room temperature. Many of the pubs seem to have a standard hp as well as a guest hp. There appear to be many different brewers and since we found a website listing some locations I plan on visiting as many as possible.
There is a brewery in Burton upon Trent that has been there for hundreds of years. It is currently owned by Coors (EWWW!), but it produces other beers besides Coors. We will not be visiting there.
