Thanksgiving 2008

Since Thanksgiving day is just a normal workday here, and we didn't get Friday off either, we decided to celebrate on Saturday so we could have a recovery day afterwards. We invited a few of our friends over to join us.
From L to R: Kevin, Stuart, Irish Mike, English Mike

It wasn't quite traditional, as our oven is not big or powerful enough to cook a full-sized turkey. But our butcher does fantastic roasted chickens, so we got a couple of those as a replacement. (BTW, cranberry sauce is good on chicken, too!)

Kev was the master chef for the day, so he prepared all the food. We had roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, sausage stuffing, gravy, and homemade biscuits. We weren't able to find fresh cranberries to make the sauce like we normally do, but one of the local English shops had some in a jar. It was better than the canned cranberry sauce, but still not as good as the homemade kind. He even made a pumpkin pie and a rhubarb crumble (cobbler) with fresh whipped cream. Our guests were kind enough to bring a bunch of food as well, so we had enough for all of us, and probably for most of our building.

The timing was perfect--the skills of the master chef allowed everything to be ready at the same time.
