The Sistine Chapel

When we were in Rome, we went to the Vatican, and did the Vatican museums, which includes the Sistine Chapel. Have to say, a little disappointed in the Sistine Chapel. First of all, while you are going through the museums, they are very impressive. (You will see some of the pictures in the slideshows on the right side of the blog, the ceilings have all these cool murals and stuff.) So this kind of builds up the expectation.

When you get to the Sistine Chapel, you cannot take pictures, and the docent constantly keep repeating "Silence" or "Shhhh". But, it is a chapel, and a very important one, so shut the F*** up! Anyways, the ceiling is very impressive, but, neither of us felt "Oh wow!" like we have with other stuff. I mean, Mike did some very nice work, but, it was more like "that's not bad".

Now, for me personally, the ceiling of St. Ignatius of Loyola, only a few blocks from the Pantheon, now that made me go "Bloody hell, that is good!" The paintings look like they are actually statues, like they are coming off the ceiling. I definitely preferred that to the Sistine Chapel.
