5 weeks and counting

Boy, does the time fly. Here we are just a hair over 5 weeks from our departure date, and things have been super-busy. We finally finished repainting the hallway, yay, and now we’ve moved on to the front of the house. The big room. Kevin has been creatively rearranging the furniture in order to avoid splashing paint on everything, but will have to get even more creative when we start on the ceiling. Luckily, we’re doing the ceiling and walls the same color, so no worries about the paint getting onto things its not supposed to.

I played show agent again this weekend. Two people stopped by for information on the house. Both saw the signs in the window and decided to stop. The woman who stopped on Friday night actually knows one of our neighbors from down the street. We spent 45 minutes walking around the house and chatting. She was really nice. It would just be her and her son.

The woman who stopped on Saturday afternoon was looking for herself and two roommates. She had been in the neighborhood before and really liked it. Her main concern was the size of the bedrooms since one is significantly smaller than the other two. She was also very nice. So far, all the people who have been in to see the house have seemed like they would be good renters. Hopefully, this is the start of more interest in the house. We’re ~30 days out from the end of the month, so more people will start looking if they are moving out of their current places at the end of March. We’ll see…

Kevin is taking this week off work to finish up the list of projects we’ve got going. We have a bunch of little projects that need some time to complete, so he figured the easiest thing to do would be to take time off and just get them done. The piano movers are coming on Friday to move the piano to Kev’s brother’s house, so that will free up some space in the back room. We’re getting the storage unit this week also—and not a moment too soon because we’re running out of room for all the boxes.

I’ve gotten the house almost completely packed—all the stuff that we don’t use every day. There are only a few things left. The kitchen isn’t packed up yet since we are pretty much using stuff for cooking, etc. but that won’t take too long as we really don’t have that much in there. We’re doing our test pack next weekend so we’ll know how much we can carry and what we’ll have to ship. We’re not taking much besides clothes, some linens, and some odds and ends—probably only enough for one box. But it will be nice to have some familiar things in our new surroundings.
