Back to the UK

OK, we're really late with this post since we went on March 7, but hey...

When we first moved to the UK, we stayed with Kevin's cousin Peter and his family for a few weeks. Peter's wife is Hayley, and she had a 40th b-day party on March 8. So we wanted to go and see the family. Plus, Kev has been missing the English ale something awful, so he was going to do his best to make up for lost time.

We flew out on Friday, March 7, but the only flight we could get at the time we wanted was to Luton airport, just outside of London. We then had to rent a car and drive for 2 hours to get to the hotel where we were staying. Luckily, the party was at the hotel, so on Sat night we didn't have to worry about driving. The hotel had a pub/restaurant in it, so after we got settled in the room, we went downstairs for some food and Kev had his first pint. Happy camper.

Friday night, we went out for a meal with Peter and Hayley, their daughters, and Hayley's parents. Then we went back to the house for cake. We even had a go on the XBox and the Wii that they got for Christmas.

Saturday we went in to Ashby, the town where we lived. Kev had a chiro appointment and I got my hair cut. We met up with a couple we became friends with while we were there and had lunch and a few pints at our former "local" (pub). The 6 nations rugby tournament was on TV at the time, so we got to check that out as well. (Kev doesn't care much about the rugby, but for some reason, I'm getting into it--although I have almost no knowledge about how the sport is played...) We also stopped into some of the shops we visited regularly and said hi to the people there. They were surprised to see us--"What are you doing here?"

The party was on Saturday night at the hotel. Most of the extended family was there, and so we got to see everyone in one shot, versus having to truck around to various houses. The ale was flowing freely, and Peter got up and sang to Hayley, which was really funny. There was a nice buffet and the cake was really good.

Sunday morning, we were up by 8 and at the breakfast when it opened at 8:30. Our flight was at 12:30, and we still had the two-hour drive back to Luton. Most of the family who stayed at the hotel were down by 9, just before we left, so we got to say bye to them.

It was a long way to go for such a short time, but we're glad we went. Kev got to have his ale(!) and we got to see the family.
