The Saturday and Sunday were the qualifying days, so there were no big names playing those days. One of the French players was familiar to my friend, but that was it.
All in all, we saw 4 matches. Our seats were on the center court, which was really great.

If you looked to the right, you could see some of the fancy apartment buildings of Monaco with the sheer rock cliffs behind.

They had a total of about 10 courts, but not all of them were active the day we went. I think they only had 3 or 4 going, including the center court.
Most of the courts here in the south of France are the orange clay, which you would normally see on TV during the French Open in Paris. The would drag the courts between sets and they had to water the courts from time to time because the clay would blow when the wind picked up. The guys who played the early afternoon matches got the worst of the breeze.
The country club itself was really nice. It is on the side of the hill, so there are different levels. They had cafes and little boutiques, plus different vendors with tents set up so you could buy all kinds of stuff, tennis and otherwise.
It was a great place to people-watch. What we found the most amusing were the spectators that were kitted out completely in their tennis gear--almost like they expected one of the players to say, "Hey, you! I'm tired, why don't you jump in and play the next game for me!"
