Fete de la Musique

Yesterday, June 21, was the Fete de la Musique in France. This is an annual event across the entire country where anyone can set up on a street corner, or wherever, and play music. Normally, you would be required to have a permit for this, but on this day, it's not required. Many towns set up venues where they put on various bands and other musicians.

Cheese!

We went out yesterday afternoon with Rebecca, the woman I played soccer with a couple of weeks ago.

Rebecca and Kevin

There is a local pub here in Antibes that has a terrace on its roof where they had set up a band. The pub is on a corner, so we were able to just stand on the sidewalks and watch the band.

They had some of their bar staff walking around in grass skirts and bikini tops taking drink orders. All the beverages were in plastic cups, a good thing considering how much beer was being consumed...and not just by us!

Rebecca is from New Zealand (a Kiwi) and we met up with some other Kiwis.

The Kiwi contingent...and a couple of Americans

We also met up with this French guy we met at another pub a couple of weeks ago. This French guy had lived in SF for 6 months about 10 years ago. When we told him we were from there, he just about fell off his chair in his excitement to tell us a bunch of stories from his adventures in SF.

Our new French friend, Fred

Anyway, we listed to the music, danced, drank, and just hung out. It was great fun. It rained for about a 1/2 hour, so we got a bit wet. But by then, it didn't really matter anymore...

A great afternoon and evening.
